Cat Empire

Since I've been busy with all my assignments, I couldn't find the time to post about anything that is happening in London the past two weeks but I think that now I have a very nice recommendation for you to spend your Monday night.

On the 9th and on the 10th of December the Australian ska/funk band "Cat Empire" will perform on stage at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Unfortunately, the first day (9th of December) is sold out that's why a second concert has been scheduled on the 10th of December and you can find tickets here

Although I enjoy ska and generally happy music, I didn't know about the band until my friend Alex (you can check her blog here) put on YouTube a song of them. The music cheers you up and brings sunshine and summer to cloudy London. I will discover more about the band after the concert and I will let you know all about the experience.

For now, listen to this song and cheer up:

Have a great and relaxing weekend!

Hollywood Costume Exhibition

I know its been a long time since my last post but I think that this one will make up for all that time that I was busy with my University projects.

Two days ago I went after booking tickets to Victoria and Albert Museum at South Kensington, for the exhibition of Hollywood Costumes. I thought that this will be a thrilling experience for those who are into fashion or film. I was wrong. I hardly found tickets to book, the rooms of the exhibition were full of people that from the look of their faces I bet they were so amazed by the costumes of several great Hollywood movies.

I couldn't take any photos of the exhibition because they informed us that was prohibited, but I coudn't resist when I was in front of Audrey's Hepburn's dress from "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Here you are!

This exhibition celebrates 100 years of cinema, from the silent era till now. Costumes designers play a very important role in the creation of a film. In V&A Museum you will find costumes of unforgettable movies (including the white dress of Marilyn Monroe!).

I suggest you to book your tickets prior to your visit because the exhibition is very popular and you will have a hard time to find a ticket if you arrive without having a booking. You can do it by clicking here.

I hope that you will enjoy it!

Song for Marion

Do you remember the post about BFI London Film Festival? If you don't click here.

I mentioned that I booked my ticket for ''Song for Marion'' movie. I watched the film yesterday at Odeon theatre at Leicester Square and all I can say is that it was with no doubt a great movie.

The movie filled me up with so many feelings about life, parents, illnesses, relationships and companionship. It leaves you with a bittersweet feeling, and that is what I like about movies. To be realistic. I believe that everyone who will watch that film can identify himself or herself in one of the characters or at least identify a member of their family.

The thing I liked the most was how it relates young people with older people. I can see clearly the exchange of energy between them. Older people give attention to the younger one, and the younger one gives life and happiness to them.

Finally the great balance between drama and comedy made the movie so  nice to watch without worrying if you disturb the person next to you with your crying.

The film is directed by Paul Andrew Williams (also known for ''London to Brighton'').
The characters of the film are played by Terence Stamp (Arthur), Gemma Arterton (Elizabeth), Vanessa Redgrave (Marion), Christopher Eccleston (James).

The photo above is just before the screening where on the right Terence Stamp and on the left Paul Andrew Williams say a few things about the character and the film.

According to IMDB film's release date in UK is on the 8th of February 2013.

I hope you will enjoy it.

Cheers

Rolling Stones

It's all about Rolling Stones these days!

Formed in London 1962 half a century ago, Rolling Stones celebrate these years with 2 concerts in the O2 arena both in 25th and 29th of November. You can book your tickets here.

But this is not the only thing why Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are having fun these days. Yesterday was the premiere of their documentary at the BFI London Film Festival where they attended the event. On the video that follows you can see what happened yesterday and some comments from the producer and the director of the documentary.

Hope they are going to make more great music in the next years because as they say...50 and counting!

This is a video from a concert, in London 30 years ago, performing ''Satisfaction''

Have a great rock n' roll weekend!

Bodyform Advertisement

Few days ago Richard Neill ( a Facebook user), posted at "Bodyform'' Facebook page a comment about how Bodyform advertisements represent lies about how women are acting during their period. You can see his post here.

The answer that he got was a whole new advertisement by ''Bodyform'' and by the CEO of the company which is very clever and funny.

What do you think?

BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL

I've been living in London for over a month now and the one thing that I missed this year for not being in Athens was Athens International Film Festival. BUT lucky me! I'm in London where great things for music and films happen. One of them is London Film Festival.
I was having coffee in Brick Lane when they gave me a 100 page booklet about it. When I got home I opened it and I found out the variety of movies and documentaries. I got online and booked my ticket to see what this festival is all about and tell you my experience.
London Film Festival is taking place on 10 till 21 of October and the screenings take place in several cinemas around London. You can book your tickets and find out about the prices here . You simply type in the search engine the movie that you decided you want to see and the available screenings pop up at your screen. The films are listed here
Finally, I find the photo of the festival amazing! I think it represents all the different films that the festival has and that is for all kind of people. That's what films are all about right?

PS. I booked my ticket for the movie ''Song for Marion''. Check it out!
